The Wildland Solutions Road Maintenance Guide

Many access roads receive poor and ineffective maintenance. The causes are many, however a lack of understanding why problems develop and an inability to identify easy to solve problems are often part of an ineffective road maintenance program.

The 2012 field guide “Effective Maintenance for Ranch, Fire and Utility Access Roads” provides a wealth of information in a format that is positive and easy to understand. High quality pictures and graphics help the reader understand why road problems occur, and how to identify opportunities to improve their road maintenance program. The revised 2012 publication builds on the 1999 Wildland Solutions road guide and suggestions provided by 30+ workshops and 1,000 workshop attendees between 1998-2012.

The publication is recommended because it is a good investment for any organization, land owner, or agency with limited resources looking for a way to incrementally improve their ability to achieve agency objectives related to wildland access road maintenance.

The field guide is printed on a heavy-duty weather resistant paper stock designed for field use.
